How to Use VXT Canvas

VXT Canvas is a visual content creation tool within Samsung’s latest digital signage software, designed to simplify the process of building and customising digital signage content.

Whether starting from a blank canvas or using pre-made templates, VXT Canvas provides users with the flexibility to create professional, eye-catching visuals.

It is perfect for businesses looking to design dynamic content quickly and efficiently for their digital screens.

How to Access VXT Canvas

From the homepage, click Content > Create Content to access the VXT Canvas menu page.

For the best experience, use Google Chrome to work with VXT Canvas. Some features may not function properly in Internet Explorer or other browsers.

1. Available Options & Functionalities

This is how VXT canvas looks at a glance. We will now go over each section and option.

1.1. Templates

The Templates section in the main menu of VXT Canvas offers a comprehensive library of categorized templates, making it easy to create professional and visually appealing content that aligns with your business's branding and goals.

    • Templates are organized into various categories like Restaurant, QSR, Retail, Education and Healthcare, catering to specific business needs.
    • Each template is designed using elements like Widgets, Media, Text, Shapes and Library items, which can be fully customized.
  2. Editing Options
    • Use the element properties menu to adjust style, alignment and animation settings, tailoring each template to exact requirements.

  • For You - Explore recommended templates based on organisation’s business category.

  • Education - View templates for education-related content.
  • Healthcare - Discover templates for health and medical-related businesses.
  • Grid - Use blank or split templates for maximum customization.
  • All - Display all available templates in one place.

1.2. Art

This section provides access to a variety of art content, including paintings, photos and other visual media. Browsing and selecting images from categorised collections is possible to enhance your content.

Using the element properties menu, content properties can be viewed and customised to match your specific requirements.

Pro tip: On the right, there is a Canvas option which allows you to change display orientation from horizontal to vertical.

1.3. Widgets

This section provides a selection of widgets, including a menu board, clock and other interactive tools to enhance the content.

Use the element properties menu to customise the widget’s style, alignment and animation settings to suit your needs.

When playing a URL using a web widget, VXT Player inserts the URL in an iframe format. If the URL does not display correctly, ensure it is compatible with iframe embedding.

1.4.Media

The Media section allows you to load various types of media content, such as images, videos and web content, directly from a workspace.

  • If no media is available, a message will appear stating, “There is no media.”
  • Note: 4K video cannot be used alongside videos of different resolutions.

The element properties menu can be used to customise the style, alignment and animation settings of your media. However, animation options are not supported for video content.

1.5. Text

The Text section allows for adding and customising text elements to enhance your content. It is possible to insert headings, body text or labels and adjust their appearance to match the design.

Use the element properties menu to modify the style, alignment and animation settings of the text, ensuring it suits specific needs.

1.6. Shapes

The Shapes section allows for adding geometric elements like rectangles, circles and lines to your content, providing visual structure or emphasis.

Use the element properties menu to adjust the style, alignment, and animation settings of the shapes to fit specific design requirements.

1.7. Library

The Library section offers a variety of categorised elements to configure and enhance the content. Files can be uploaded directly from the device by clicking the cloud icon or searching and loading free images from Pixabay to enrich designs.

1.8. Apps

The Apps section allows for enhancing your content by utilising various additional applications. Apps can be installed and used  as needed to meet your specific requirements.

2. Sub-Menu of Each Main Item

This section displays the sub-menu items related to the option selected from the main menu, providing access to additional configuration tools and features.

3. Content Editor

The Content Editor section allows for viewing and editing content, as well as managing added elements.

  • If there are multiple pages, navigate between them by scrolling the mouse wheel or clicking the up and down arrows.
  • The page number is displayed at the top left.
  • To delete a page, click the bin icon.
  • To access page settings, click the three dots icon. This reveals important options such as duplication, adding a transition effect and setting a duration.

4. Content Timeline/Page Settings

The page settings can also be accessed by hovering over a page number in the timeline below and clicking the three dots.

5. Zoom In/Out

Use the Zoom feature to adjust the content view, allowing for zooming in or out as needed for precise editing or a broader overview.

6. Properties Menu

The Properties Menu in VXT Canvas allows editing the style and other attributes of an element. The available menu items vary depending on the selected element.

Settings related to background colours, sounds, dimensions, screen orientation and many more can be found within the system. 

Selecting an element reveals various options for styling, arranging, animation and more.

It is advised to take the time to practise these options before applying them to a real project.

7. Additional Features in VXT Canvas

  • Undo (Ctrl+Z): Reverts the last action to restore the previous state.
  • Redo (Ctrl+Y): Re-applies the last undone action.
  • Layers: Displays and manages the layers in your canvas.
  • Network Event: Configures network event settings by entering UDP port and Key values.
  • Preview or Save: Allows to preview or save the edited canvas. If the content is already published, saved changes are applied immediately to the screen.
  • Three dots: Displays the additional menu options below.
    • New/Save As: Click New to create a new canvas or Save As to save the current canvas with a new name.
    • Add to My Templates: Save the current canvas as a template for future use.
    • Ruler and Guides: Use the Ruler and Guides buttons to display rulers and grid lines on the canvas for precise alignment.
